Notre Dame Football: Games
built 633 days ago
You probably heard the story about how a former Notre Dame football player, George Gipp, lay dying in bed and asked his coach, Knute Rockne, to tell the players to "win one for the Gipper." Later on, when his team is trailing at halftime, Rockne goes on to relay this moment to his players, who, in a burst of inspiration, go on to win the game. It is one of the most iconic episodes in the history of American sport.
Former Notre Dame football coach Ara Parseghian will be honored with a statue inside Notre Dame Stadium. A statue showing Parseghian on the shoulders of his players following the 1971 Cotton Bowl win over top-rated Texas will be dedicated Sept. 22 before the Michigan State-Notre Dame game.

Brady Quinn of Notre Dame Notre Dame Tickets are in high demand this season. And why not? The Fighting Irish are off to a fighting start this season and are one of the most exciting college football teams to catch when you have time to kill with friends in front of the television on Saturday afternoons. Especially after a tense game this past weekend against UCLA, the Fighting Irish are a team to watch.
The 1963 Notre Dame football team finished 2-7 and might have even tied a school record for losses had its game against Iowa not been canceled because of the assassination of John F. Kennedy. Like this year’s team, that 1963 team enjoyed a victory over U.C.L.A., but what that team is most famous for is being the last Fighting Irish squad to lose to Navy.
Notre Dame will do that without quarterback Demetrius Jones, who escaped the Irish program hours before the team traveled to Michigan on Friday afternoon. While Weis acknowledged his one-time starting quarterback's defection could have been a distraction, no personnel shock could account for all the carnage witnessed by the 111,178 inside Michigan Stadium as the Wolverines won their first game of the season.
Quinn, who just completed his junior season, has played in 36 career games at Notre Dame. This means he has seen action in every game since joining the team. He started nine games as a freshman, and has been under center for nearly every single snap since then. After a breakout 2005 campaign in coach Charlie Weis' pass-intensive offense, there was a lot of talk that Quinn would declare for the NFL draft. But, following in the footsteps of USC's Matt Leinart, Quinn will reportedly be back calling signals for the Irish next season.
