Notre Dame Football: Charlie Weis
built 115 days ago
Notre Dame Fighting Irish Football Tickets Notre Dame football was a huge topic in 2007, for all the wrong reasons. Looking ahead, expect this proud program to take the field in 2008 with renewed purpose as Head Coach Charlie Weis aims to return his team to national prominence.

Notre Dame is credited with one of the strongest college football programs in history, rich in tradition and attracting the best of the best in recruits. Charlie Weis has perfected the art of recruiting by rounding out his team roster with a bumper crop. These new recruits will jointhe Fighting Irish as they enter the 2007 campaign with high expectations in the battle for the national championship.
Three years ago, Notre Dame said it would play three Big East teams each year starting in 2011. The scheduling proceeds slowly. As long as there are no repeat 3-9 seasons, Notre Dame football does what it wants because Notre Dame football can. And you know what? If the folks at Notre Dame want to make their own rules, if they want to count the gold at the end of the NBC-BCS rainbow, if they want to be their own monopoly, well, that's fine. It's just a little sad to watch them bleed every cent, every scintilla of pride, from conference brethren.
Notre Dame is one of only two Catholic universities that field a team in the Football Bowl Subdivision, the other being Boston College, and one of a handful of programs independent of a football conference. The team plays its home games on Notre Dame's campus at Notre Dame Stadium... known as the "House that Rockne Built," which has a capacity of 80,795. The current head coach is Charlie Weis.
If you don't like the social teachings of the Catholic Church, are a rabid, leftist liberal or are generally hostile to religious convervatism, then Notre Dame is not for you. The school is reclaiming its faith, despite the vocal opposition of a minority of its students. Notre Dame's new president is an extremely orthodox, Holy Cross priest, and is steering the nation's premier Catholic university towards one thing: CATHOLICISM. Protestants and non-Catholics are MORE than welcome, but be forewarned that if you hope to live outside the scope of the Church's social teachings on sex, abortion, et al., you will be sorely disappointed.
Frank Leahy Notre Dame's home jersey is dark blue with white numerals, gold outlining, and a small interlocking "ND" logo at the base of the collar. The away jersey is white with blue numerals, gold outlining, and the interlocking "ND" at the collar. Neither jersey includes the player's name on the back at the present time, but names were included during the Dan Devine and Gerry Faust eras. Gold pants, with a small ND logo just below the left waist, are worn with both home and away jerseys.
