  1. Carlos Franco -- Pga Tour
Rusk's 68 was the same as PGA Tour veterans Carlos Franco and Jim McGovern, playing partner Greg Chalmers and better than Tour members Robert Gamez (71) and Notah Begay, III (75). McGovern added a 66 in the second round to vault into the top-10 at 134, while Chalmers (67) and Franco (71) are at 139.
  2. Casey Martin -- Stanford University
Casey Martin is an exceptionally talented professional golfer. In addition to a distinguished amateur career as a junior, he was a team mate of Tiger Woods at Stanford University. Throughout his life, Casey has suffered from a degenerative circulatory disorder that obstructs the flow of blood from his right leg to his heart. The disease causes severe pain and makes it virtually impossible for him to walk an 18-hole golf course. At worst, the exertion and fatigue associated with walking this distance could cause haemorrhaging requiring an amputation of his leg.
  3. Rocco Mediate
Rocco Mediate was on top of his game when he won the Buick Open in 2000. Back problems have hampered him in recent years, but he's healthy again and playing well enough to take the first-round lead Thursday at the Buick Open. Mediate shot 8-under-par 64 to take a one-shot lead over Brett Quigley, Woody Austin and Brian Bateman. Mediate discusses his road to recovery following the round.
  4. Casey Martin -- Pga Tour
Casey Martin is a young man who plays golf. By all accounts, he is a decent, personable individual with a killer swing. He is ... a person with a disability. Because of a birth anomaly called Klippel-Trenaunay-Weber syndrome, Martin can't walk the several miles it takes to "walk the course." That meant that he couldn't play in the PGA (Professional Golfers Association) because "walking the course" was required. In February Martin won an ADA suit against the PGA, gaining the right to use a golf cart as a reasonable accommodation. How this happened - and the reaction of press and public - is fascinating.
  5. Lee Janzen
Major Championship winners Lee Janzen and John Daly are in the field for the Turning Stone Resort Championship. Both players have accepted sponsor exemptions to compete in the PGA TOUR event, scheduled for Sept. 17-23 at the Oneida Nation's Atunyote Golf Club. Janzen has eight victories on Tour, including U.S. Open Championships in 1993 and 1998 and The 1995 PLAYERS Championship. He put the Turning Stone Resort Championship on his schedule after hearing rave reviews from players who were introduced to the venue at last year's B.C. Open Presented by Turning Stone.
