Nostradamus: Death
built 629 days ago
Nostradamus was married twice, losing his first wife and two children to the plague. He died on 2 July 1566. "Centuries" was translated into English in 1672. In 1781 it was banned by the Roman Catholic Church. Ironically, in 1553, when Nostradamus encountered a group of Franciscan monks he threw himself on his knees, clutching at the garment of one of the monks, Felice Peretti. When asked why he had done this he replied that he must yield "before his Holiness." Nineteen years after the death of Nostradamus, Peretti became Pope Sixtus V.

Nostradamus himself died in 1566. He had long suffered from gout, and naturally predicted his own end, although sources say he was off by a year. Many translations of his Centuries and treatises on their significance appeared in the generations following his death, and remain popular to the present day. Interpreters claim Nostradamus predicted Adolf Hitler's rise to power as well as the explosion of the U.S. space shuttle Challenger in 1986. Biographies of the seer have ... appeared periodically. For two centuries the Vatican issued the Index, or a list of forbidden books; Centuries was always on it. "No other prophet since Biblical times has held as constant a place in the hearts and minds of the populace as Nostradamus," wrote Dava Sobell in Omni.

"Comet and War Sub" by Michael McClellan, C 1994-2001 The war of Alus, prophesied by Nostradamus, was ... chronicled by the biblical prophet Jeremiah. Is Alus Syrian President Bashar al-Assad or Iraqi Shiite cleric Muqtada al-Sadr? It is a war that will bring about the nuclear destruction of much of Syria and the Iranian takeover of a civil war-torn Iraq, herald military defeat for the United States, and possibly rain down death upon Jordan, Saudi Arabia, and northern Israeli cities in the process. The coming conflict in the Middle East, along with another in the Balkans, will also be linked with the death of another figure called Mabus. Who is this man whose dead hand will ignite World War III? Was it the executed Saddam Hussein?

One of Nostradamus's more accurate predictions was the exact form of the "Westside" gesture. {{|Nostradamus was born in the year 969, in England, during the time of the black death. His father owned a store in their village that made him large amounts of money, "Ye Olde Porne Merchant." His father, as a result, always could afford to buy corn for his family (corn being very expensive back then, and no wonder he was really corny).
Nostradamus began working on Centuries in 1554. The first seven volumes were published the following year. He completed the other volumes soon after, but would not allow them to be published until after his death. The reception of the initial works made Nostradamus a celebrated figure.
Toutatis Nostradamus prophesied the death of Princess Diana, her "temple" at Althorp, and her reappearance to the world as a miraculous apparition. This final event may take place in October 2008 near the eve of World War III.
