[One] famous sport in Norway is called "Island Jumping". This is a sport where contestants jump from one island to another. Another version of this sport is called "Bar Jumping", where contestants go from one bar to another, drink some karsk, and then go on to the next bar. The one who throws up first has lost, and the one who is first to arrive at the nachspiel has won.
This 1979 refurbishment was only the first of many modifications, re-fittings, and face lifts that the Norway has had over the last two decades. An alternative restaurant, a 6000 square foot Roman Spa, a 4000 square foot fitness center, a Sports Illustrated Cafe, and a whole new deck of balconied suites are just some of the additions. Therefore, although the Norway is one of the oldest ladies sailing, these modifications have helped her keep up with her more modern competition.
When Norway was invaded by Germany in 1940, practically all organized football ceased operations. Asbjørn Halvorsen was among the figureheads of the sports boycott, and was arrested and sent to a concentration camp. Many other sports figures, including Reidar Kvammen, were ... put in concentration camps. Although many players tried to keep fit, and a few illegal matches were organized, the six-year hiatus set Norwegian football back by several years – which became painstakingly evident in the first post-war game against Sweden in Stockholm on October 21, 1945.
Running in the rain/sleet has the dubious honor of being, simultaneously, both the most practiced and the most hated sport in Norway. This is nowadays known as the Norwegian Runner's Rain/Sleet Paradox in climatological circles.
