Aug. 30, 2006: Northwest and its flight attendants are due to update a New York judge on the status of their talks. On Aug. 25, Judge Victor Marrero blocked a flight attendant strike. He seemed to hope that the two sides would negotiate. That hasn't happened, and no talks are planned.
The flights are conveniently timed for vacationers between the two cities, as well as those making connections to and from dozens of destinations via the Seattle hub of Alaska Airlines and Horizon Air, Northwest's alliance partners. Pet travel: pets can travel accompanied on Northwest flights as checked luggage or carry-on luggage. You need to notify Northwest at least 24 hours before travel if you wish to bring a pet with you. Total number of pets on each airplane is limited. Pets are not allowed to travel... when the temperature on the flight is predicted to be above 85F at any point on the journey. Snub-nosed pets are not allowed to fly on any flight when the temperature is predicted to be above 75F at any point on the journey. If the pet is flying as carry-on luggage, a charge of $80 per kennel is required.

On May 30, 2007, it was announced that the flight attendants narrowly agreed to concessions and became the last major work group at Northwest to agree to new contract terms. The deal was approved by a vote of 2,966 to 2,862. Union leaders said that 90.5 percent of eligible voters cast ballots. The new contract provides Northwest with $195 million in annual cuts through 2011.

The letter followed an increase in cancellations last weekend, when Northwest said 51 mainline flights were canceled on Saturday and another 58 on Sunday. Steenland said 36 of the cancellations were related to planes being pulled out of service for maintenance.

A spokesman for Northwest said Tuesday that the travelers, who were returning from a pilgrimage to Mecca in Saudi Arabia, reported to the gate about 20 minutes before their connecting flight was to take off. They were barred from making the trip by airline and international flight rules, he said.
