Fortunately, the missile the North Koreans may test does not work either. The last time they fired a long-range missile was in 1998, it went about 1300 killometers and failed to put its tiny payload into orbit.

The Pentagon persists in its attack on the “axis of evil” with a $10 billion a year missile defense system to respond to a threat from North Korea. The system, a revamped program resembling President Reagan’s Star Wars program, intends to “counter North Korean missiles that could be tipped with nuclear, chemical or germ weapons.” (Reuters)

Jason LaBouyer has been to North Korea twice. In July 2004 and again in August this year, the 23-year-old from California’s Yuba City crossed over the 38th parallel—something most Americans have not been able to do since George W. Bush invented an Axis of Evil and made the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea a charter member. Both trips were arranged by the North Korean government.

The Russian Foreign Ministry says discussions during the fourth round of six-nation talks on the North Korea nuclear program were useful and is hopeful that a compromise will be reached in the future. The discussions were focused on the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.

While there are many similarities between the North and the South Korean students, there are ... many differences. The North Korean students drink with their teachers. They usually take a bottle of alcohol to their students and drink with them out of good will. While it is hard to imagine such things happening in South Korea, the students do not get in trouble for drinking in North Korea.

South Korean Foreign Minister Ban Ki-moon said it appeared some rockets had been assembled, but the North's intentions were unclear. There were no reports of a launch by Tuesday evening, and the North is considered unlikely to launch at nighttime.
