Normandy: Landings
built 605 days ago
Though Shepard works for the Citadel, the Normandy is still considered to be under Alliance jurisdiction, and her unique design means Shepard is often asked to complete missions for Admiral Hackett, especially those requiring discretion. The Normandy is ... the subject of an inspection by Rear Admiral Mikhailovich, who is annoyed that she was given to Shepard rather than being assigned to his flotilla as was intended; he refers to the Normandy as 'overdesigned'. Shepard can set him straight and defend the Normandy's innovations. Joker's handling of the Normandy saves Shepard's neck on several occasions; providing an evac from Therum, dropping the Mako right under the radar of the AA guns on Virmire, and getting them away from the nuclear explosion in time, to name but a few.

Normandy is known best for more recent events... as its German-occupied beaches, code-named Omaha, Utah, Juno, Gold and Sword, were the site of a massive Allied offensive on June 6, 1944. D-Day saw British, Canadian and American and soldiers, while suffering considerable numbers of casualties, begin the end of the Second World War, starting the push that would eventually liberate Europe. Memorials and monuments commemorate the sacrifices made here.

Discover the Bessin area, a part of Normandy where, since the Gallo-Roman era, history has been written. The area is a dense network of towns of art, villages and hamlets, parks and gardens, stately residences, manor houses and fortified chateaux. It is on these shores that the D-Day Landing of 6 June 1944 launched the Battle of Normandy and began the liberation of France

The name of Normandy is derived from the settlement and conquest of the territory by Vikings ("Northmen") from the 9th century, and confirmed by treaty in the 10th century. For a century and a half following the Norman Conquest of England in 1066, Normandy and England were linked by Norman rulers, but following 1204 the continental territory was ultimately held by France.
