"He is probably the single individual who has done most to create greater worldwide understanding of the measures that need to be adopted."

The 1934 Prize went to ex-British Foreign Secretary Arthur Henderson. Faithful to the intent of Nobel's will to reward those who had worked to reduce standing armies and promote peace congresses, few could have been more appropriate as candidates than Henderson: he was President of the World Disarmament Conference at Geneva from 1932-1934.
