Nintendo Entertainment System
built 63 days ago
The Nintendo Entertainment System was a game changer. It was released despite the video game market crash of 1983 and was extremely successful. Atari blew its chance to distribute the system and the NES went on to become the best selling video game console of all time (at the time). The Nintendo is ... the birth place of many of Nintendo's stellar franchises: Mario, Zelda, and Metroid. The NES has also had one of the longest lifespan's of any system. In fact, Nintendo of Japan still repaired Nintendo's up through 2003 when parts became too scarce.

The Nintendo Entertainment System (often referred to as the NES or simply Nintendo), is an 8-bit video game console released by Nintendo in North America, Brazil, Europe, and Australia in 1985. In most of Asia, including Japan (where it was first launched in 1983), the Philippines, Taiwan, Vietnam, and Singapore, it was released as the Family Computer (Famiri Konpyuta?) or simply, the Famicom (Famikon?). In South Korea, the hardware was licensed to Hyundai Electronics, which marketed it as the Comboy.

The Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES, was the first console made by Nintendo. The NES first started because of the plummet of arcade games in 1984 which damaged many game manufacturers, such as Nintendo. The Famicom (FAMIly COMputer) first came out in Japan in 1984 selling over 2.5 million systems. With the sensation in Japan, Nintendo decided to make it available in the United States. They first tried negotiating with Wikipedia:Atari to have them release it but Atari rejected the Famicom, so Nintendo determined they would release it themselves in 1985.

Dear old Nintendo Entertainment System, or NES for short, since the beginning of it's existence was and is still suffering from the infamous blank screen of error. And as kids thought, well cartridge is dirty, they wanted to clean it the simplest and easies way possible - by blowing on it. What a terrible mistake it is! Nintendo NES cartridge connectors circuitry is made of copper. The socket inside NES that accepts the cartridge is metal. By blowing on a cartridge, and sometimes spitting on it, this created a thin layer of moisture that helped conduct electric charge on contact between console and the game. Ta ta!

The Nintendo Entertainment System was released in the year 1985. There was never a commercial Grand Theft Auto game for that particular system. However, Grand Theftendo, a homebrew version of GTA, will be a freeware game that is due to be released for this system in 2007.

The Nintendo Entertainment System is given much of the credit for revitalizing the home video game industry. By keeping tight control over the content, quality and production of all games released on the system Nintendo was able to avoid many problems that plagued the Atari 2600 such as overproduction and cheap low quality games cutting into sales of quality titles. Despite the positive effects this level of control had Nintendo is ... strongly criticized for these policies during this time period.
