While the majority of West Nile infections are mild and asymptomatic, approximately 20% of those infected will develop symptoms such as fever, headache, body aches and swollen glands. The more severe West Nile encephalitis is estimated to occur in one out of every 150 infections. Symptoms include high fever, neck stiffness, stupor, convulsions, coma and sometimes paralysis. Death can occur in the most severe cases when the virus crosses the blood-brain barrier, leading to encephalitis or inflammation of the brain.

West Nile is a mosquito-borne viral disease that can be fatal. The disease first occurred in the US in the summer of 1999, when an outbreak occurred in New York in which 62 people were hospitalised with encephalitis and seven people died. Based on antibody surveys, approximately 2.5% of New York metropolitan residents were infected, making it likely that many had developed milder illnesses. Countless wild birds and a number of horses ... succumbed to the disease. Other US states affected were New Jersey, Connecticut and Maryland. Several preventative measures were taken last year, including the spraying of New York City with pesticide in an attempt to kill the infected mosquitoes.

Within 18 months White Nile has conducted seismic acquisition on parts of Block Ba. The interpretation of this seismic data has yielded a number of prospects, three of which the Company intends to drill this year.

Despite the attempts of the Greeks and Romans (who were unable to penetrate the Sudd), the upper reaches of the Nile remained largely unknown. Various expeditions had failed to determine the river's source... yielding classical Hellenistic and Roman representations of the river as a male god with his face and head obscured in drapery. Agatharcides records that in the time of Ptolemy II Philadelphus, a military expedition had penetrated far enough along the course of the Blue Nile to determine that the summer floods were caused by heavy seasonal rainstorms in the Ethiopian highlands, but no European in Antiquity is known to have reached Lake Tana, let alone retraced the steps of this expedition farther than Meroe.

Combining the extreme speed and nihilism of modern death metal with the ancient styling of Middle Eastern music, Nile formed in their hometown of Greensberg, SC, in 1993. With their self-proclaimed trademark of "Ithyphallic Metal," Karl Sanders (guitar/vocals), Chief Spires (bass/vocals), and Pete Hammoura (drums) debuted with their Festivals of Atonement album in 1995, leading Nile to a southwestern tour in support of other big metal acts such as Obituary, Deicide and Broken Hope. Viscera Productions was responsible for Nile's follow-up EP Ramses Bringer of War in 1997 and was going to release their second album Amongst the Catacombs of Nephren-Ka -- that is, if they hadn't gone out of business later that year. However, Relapse Records was more than happy to put it out in early 1998, giving Nile a wider distribution and a chance to hit the road with Incantation and Morbid Angel. The follow-up, Black Seeds of Vengeance, was released in late 2000. A collection of remastered, hard to find recordings, In the Beginning was released later the same year.

The present Nile is at least the fifth river that has flowed north from the Ethiopian Highlands. Satellite imagery was used to identify dry watercourses in the desert to the west of the Nile. An Eonile canyon, now filled by surface drift, represents an ancestral Nile called the Eonile that flowed during the later Miocene (23-5.3 million years before the present). The Eonile transported clastic sediments to the Mediterranean, where several gas fields have been discovered within these sediments.
