Reality television star Nicole Richie completed her jail sentence by spending just 82 minutes behind bars. The 25-year old actress had been sentenced to four days in jail for her second California DUI. The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said that prison population levels lead to Richie’s early release, and that it was a “standard procedure for nonviolent offendersâ€.

Nicole was arrested on December 11, 2006 for a DUI, after driving the wrong way down a motorway. She was arrested in Burbank, just ten miles from Los Angeles. She failed a field sobriety test and was taken into custody, after admitting she had smoked marijuana and taken Vicodin. Back in 2002, Nicole pleaded no contest to a drink driving charge after recording blood-alcohol levels of 0.12 and 0.13.

In October 2006 her publicist announced that Richie "has decided to undergo diagnostic treatment to determine why she's not been putting on weight." According to Workman, Richie was alone in her vehicle and on the cell phone when police approached her. He described her as “very cooperative” and that she told police she had been following a friend on the freeway when she got lost.
