Just hours after Nicole Kidman announced her pregnancy, George Clooney offered up his congratulations. "I'm thrilled for her," he told PEOPLE at the picket-line-free Critics' Choice Awards in L.A. Monday night. "[She'll be] a perfect mother." (The two have been friends for years, dating back to their work in 1997's The Peacemaker. Kidman famously bet Clooney $10,000 he would be unmarried and childless when he turned 40 in 2001.

After attending the glamour of the Academy Awards and Oscar parties, Nicole Kidman spent the following day with her children, reflecting on the joys of being a mother. A few hours later Kidman was focused on helping other mothers enjoy their health.

Kidman began studying ballet at age four which introduced her to theater. She began studying acting, attending the Australian Theatre for Young People and the St. Martin's Youth Theatre in Melbourne and the Phillip Street Theatre in Sydney where she focused on voice production and theatre history. Kidman grew up in Longueville and attend the North Sydney Girls High School before dropping out to attend to her mother during her bout with breast cancer.

Kidman is all too aware of the destruction caused by breast cancer. She has lost friends to breast cancer and her experience watching her mother fight the disease deeply affected her and strengthened her resolve.

"Very pleased, really pleased indeed, nothing else would make me come out straight from the pool onto the front door step," Kidman's mother Janelle told local television from the door of her Sydney home. "I think it's (expected) in July," she said.
