Nick Frost

Born March 28, 1972, in Essex, England, Nick Frost was an aspiring comedian working as a waiter in a Mexican restaurant when he was introduced through a mutual friend to Simon Pegg, an up-and-coming comedian and actor. The two became fast friends before sharing an apartment, where Frost would go on to credit Pegg with exposing him to the films of Woody Allen and making him more cultured overall. It was during the time they lived together that Frost invented the character of Mike Watt, a "weapons expert" obsessed with the military, just to make Pegg laugh. Convinced that the character was worthy of a real show business outlet, Pegg persuaded Frost to act in his comedy series, "Spaced" (Channel 4, 1999-2001), in which he starred under young director Edgar Wright. Frost portrayed the character of Mike as a childhood friend of Pegg's main character, Tim.

Writer/director Edgar Wright, 32, writer/actor Simon Pegg, 37, and actor Nick Frost, 35, first put their friendship to the professional test on the British TV series "Spaced," and came out shining. The show was a hit and their friendship was intact. Their feature debut, Shaun of the Dead (2004), brought them a cult following in the U.S., and their eagerly awaited follow-up, Hot Fuzz, could bring them even bigger success. In a kind of homage/parody to every cop movie ever made, Pegg plays Nicholas Angel, a straight-arrow supercop transferred from London (he makes all the other cops look bad) to a small town. Once there, he befriends the lumpen, dreamy Danny (Frost) and attempts to solve a series of "accidental" murders, with the greatest amount of firepower available. The film never gives up on its adoration for classic cop cinema... and at one point, Nicholas and Danny sit down to a DVD double-bill of Kathryn Bigelow's Point Break (1991) and Michael Bay's Bad Boys II (2003).

Danger! 50,000 Volts! features Frost and his crew imagining a variety of potentially dangerous situations -- anything from being attacked by a bear to nuclear combat -- and then demonstrating what to do should they happen to you. However, Frost often reveals himself as not the world's greatest survival guide, and his attempts to work his way out of perilous circumstances are both exciting and hilarious. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

[J]ust as Angel is about to go insane with boredom, he and his rather low-functioning new partner Danny Butterman (Nick Frost) stumble upon what appears to be a spree of murders. Angel’s new boss — who ... happens to be Danny’s dad — dismisses Angel’s concerns, assuring the new guy that he’s working in the safest village in the country. But, sometimes, a man has to do what a man has to do, even if that means blowing up a whole bunch of little shops.
