Newgrounds is one of the largest flash gaming/development portals around. NG has an 11 year web presence and has been on the drawing board for at least 15 years. That means NG was conceived before a large percentage of its current user base.

For too long, the users of Newgrounds have had to view far too much spam in order to see those things which one actually wants to see. This spam is annoying, pointless, and a waste of Internet bandwidth. Many searches of the Flash Portal contain more spam than actual content. Groups of users exist, with the sole purpose of spamming the Portal with annoying and often obscene mockeries of the possibilities of Flash. Much of this spam contains epileptic seizure-inducing flashing, crudely done animation (crude by intention, rather than by lack of drawing ability or inexperience), use of phallic or scatological graphics, and sometimes direct requests to "Vote 5" when the author understands that there is no way that anyone, other than those who love spam (if such people even exist), would give a passing vote to their submission.

Over the years, as Newgrounds received more and more quality submissions the "Tom and Wade recommend" section grew from 1 to 2, 2 to 4, and 4 to 6 icons. There are currently 22 icons on the front page. The rate at which these icons was updated ... increased, from weeks to days, eventually leading to the removal of the "Tom and Wade recommend" heading and becoming a staple of the front page, making it easy for new users to the site to find quality content.

Jesus is the current top user of Newgrounds, but then again, Jesus is the best at everything. Next to him is Pimp, he has over 120 years of experience, and then Wade, Maus, CrazyDelmar, and so on. Many people wonder if he sold his soul to Satan in order to get such a high level. Answer..Yes. Newgrounds users are judged on their ranks, levels, whistles, stickers, blams, saves, genital size, and kittens huffed. Newgrounds encourages it's users to vote on flashes by offering them experience points. Experience points are used to get to the next level and to gain new magicka such as bio 2 and blammaga.

Any unregistered user can vote on new submissions, but the power of one's vote can be increased by registering at Newgrounds. Once registering, one's vote is automatically increased. After that, as a member there are two ways of increasing the worth of one's vote (known as "Voting Power"). The primary method is to gain "experience points" (... known as "Grounds Gold"). Members may gain 10 experience points per day by voting on 5 different flash movies or games in the Flash Portal, these points are deposited as soon as the user votes on the fifth flash, unlike the old system where they had to click a link. Another way of increasing one's Voting Power is done through the acquiring of Blam and Protection points (see below).
