Representing nearly 30,000 accountants and CPAs, the New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants (NYSSCPA) is the oldest and largest state accounting organization in the nation. Incorporated in 1897, the Society is a nonprofit organization that seeks to establish and maintain high standards of integrity, honor, and character among certified public accountants. Its members are CPAs working in public or private practice in a state that serves as the home of Wall Street and major financial centers.

U.S. Secretary of Commerce Donald L. Evans rings the opening bell at the NYSE on April 23, 2003. Former chairman Richard Grasso is also in this picture. The NYSE was destroyed in the Great Fire of New York (1835). It moved to a temporary headquarters. In 1863 it changed its name to the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE). In 1865 it moved to 10-12 Broad Street. In 1896 the Dow Jones Industrial Average was established by the Wall Street Journal with an initial value of 40.74.
Wall Street and the New York Financial District make a nice New York walking tour. The area is easily accessible from all parts of the city via subway, bus, and taxi. Visitors to Wall Street can admire the neo-classical exterior of the NYSE, but visitors have not been permitted inside the exchange since September, 2001.
From this the NYSE has grown into the largest exchange in the world. It is located on 18 Broad Street. Six marble columns are on the outside of the building. It has 16 separate trading floors. Electronic boards on two of the walls give the latest information on the stock values. These big boards may have helped give the exchange its nickname-the Big Board.
Billions of shares of stock trade daily on the famous floor of the NYSE. But for the first time since this capitalist icon was born in 1792 under a Buttonwood tree on Wall Street, investors today can buy and sell shares of the exchange itself.

The deal, which will later include the proceeds from the sale of Amex's Lower Manhattan headquarters a few blocks from the NYSE's Wall Street home, gives NYSE Euronext a second U.S. license for an option exchange. It would make the NYSE the No. 3 U.S. options marketplace.
