The New York Times, Reuters and other rivals of Dow Jones and the Wall Street Journal will need to form new alliances in order to compete with the global network of Rupert Murdoch's News Corp., say media analysts. "They've got to be saying, 'What are the content assets we have?'"

The New York Times is entering a deal to collaborate with NBC News and MSNBC.com on 2008 presidential election coverage. The Times will use NBC's political videos on its Web site, while MSNBC.com will use national political content from NYTimes.com on its site.

The New York Times is bringing its fifth annual Arts & Leisure Weekend signature celebration of the arts and culture to the Bay Area. The weekend will be held January 5-9, 2006, and will feature free admission and reduced prices to local museums, theaters, performing arts centers, tourist attractions and movies theaters. At the same time, in New York City, The Times hosts a five-day series of conversations between arts luminaries and Times journalists.
