The NBA's New Orleans Hornets are scheduled to play 43 home games, plus potential play-off matches. Tulane University, a Conference USA member, will play NCAA basketball games each season. Since its opening in 1999, the New Orleans Arena has hosted a wide variety of concerts, family shows, sports and international television events.

Opening night at the New Orleans Arena was a fairy-tale start to the season. The Hornets played the former New Orleans professional team, the Utah Jazz, and won 100-75. That win sparked the Hornets 11-0 start at home, the best in franchise history. But once again the injury bug stung the Hornets throughout the season.

The conference was held in the New Orleans Arena on the stadium floor. It seemed fitting that the New Orleans Arena is already decorated in teal, the main color of the Charlotte Hornets. The 115 million dollar arena was built with the NBA in mind. Apparently, each stadium must match up with certain guidelines in order to house an NBA team. These guidelines were researched and the New Orleans Arena matched up well. Still, the Arena is not quite “NBA-ready,” stated Glen Menard, Assistant General Manager of the arena.
