New Mexico Travel: Cities
built 255 days ago
New Mexico Airlines, a subsidiary of Pacific Wings, is now offering daily air service into Sierra Blanca Regional Airport, located 15 miles northwest of Ruidoso, from Midland/Odessa, Albuquerque and other southern New Mexico cities. Ruidoso flights to and from El Paso are set to begin March 1, 2008. These new flights join New Mexico Airlines’ current offerings of daily air service among Albuquerque, Hobbs, Carlsbad and Alamogordo as well as daily air service between those cities and Midland/Odessa and El Paso, Texas, in addition to Ruidoso.
New Mexico is filled with stunning landscapes. The A. R. Leding Cactus Garden is a wonderful way to see a wide variety of these prickly plants and see how beautiful they truly are. Just don’t trip while you’re walking the grounds. Some of New Mexico’s natural landscapes provide you with the best views. The Bisti Badlands and the De-Nah-Zin Wilderness are definite musts if you love the outdoors. Other great areas worth exploring include the Carlsbad Caverns National Park and the city of Farmington, whose location makes up the Four Corners Region.
Southwest New Mexico is truly Old West Territory. Again you may visit Billy the Kid country since he hung out for a time in Silver City. And don’t miss the Cliffside dwellings carved into the rock of the Gila Mountains by 13th Century Indians (now called Gila Cliff Dwellings National Monument).

Aside from its historic and physical attractions New Mexico has the special appeal of being caught in a time warp. A laid-back attitude prevails even in the cities, and the pace is as slow and languid as the ascent of the myriad of colourful hot-air balloons that fill the skies over the city of Albuquerque in the world-famous annual festival.

Spanish explorer Francisco Vasquez de Coronado was one of the first Europeans to trek through New Mexico in 1540. Coronado came in search of the Seven Cities of Cibola, a fabled society encrusted in gold. Needless to say, Coronado must have been quite disappointed to find -only adobe pueblos, which from afar glittered in the New Mexican sun.
New Mexico is called the Land of Enchantment for a reason. Not only is the scenery beautiful but the cities are full of art and culture and all visitors are sure to find something they are interested in doing.
