New Jersey Transit: Port Authority
built 210 days ago
New Jersey Transit is actively promoting transit-friendly planning near its stations and is eager to assist municipalities interested in stimulating such development. Ultimately, development authority rests with the municipality, but NJ Transit has prepared a guidebook, Planning for Transit-Friendly Land Use, which describes the essential elements of transit-friendly development and elaborates on the planning and zoning changes that must be enacted in order for transit-friendly development to take place. In the last 2 or 3 years, there has been a new wave of interest in the publication, including among developers. For a copy of the guidebook, call Donna Gearghty at 973-491-7814.
Staten Islanders who work in New Jersey will soon zip there on a new bus line that will run to the Hudson Bergen light rail. Commuters can jump on the bus at Hylan Boulevard-Richmond Avenue in Eltingville and ... connect to the PATH train to Manhattan. The new S89 Limited route will run during both rush hours--from 5:30 a.m. to 8:30 a.m. and 4 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. Buses will leave every 15 minutes toward New Jersey and every 30 minutes the opposite way. The MTA expects about 1,200 riders will use the service that will cost about $1.4 million a year. The Port Authority chipped in $2 million to help buy nine new buses. Something else for Staten Islanders to look forward to: the MTA and New Jersey Transit are talking about a joint monthly ticket for the bus route and the Hudson Bergen Light Rail.
Numerous bus services run between Newark Liberty and nearby population centers, including New Jersey Transit, Airporter, and Olympia Trails. Express buses to Manhattan transit hubs (Grand Central Terminal, Port Authority Bus Terminal, etc.) cost $14 (round trip $25). There is ... bus service to JFK Airport, which costs $24.
