Network Installation: Computers
built 282 days ago
To invoke a network service boot (network installation using RIS) on client computers that are not remote-boot enabled, insert the boot disk into the disk drive and start the client computer. The client computer must have a Peripheral Component Interconnect (PCI)-based network adapter from the list of specific adapters supported. To determine which network adapters RIS supports, use the boot disk–generating utility. For more information, see the topic about creating a remote boot disk in Related Topics.
[I]t should be noted that a wireless network installation is easier should not be taken to mean that it requires any less planning than a traditional network. There are some basic things that you need to consider before proceeding with a wireless network installation. For instance you need to take into account the number of people that are going to be using that network during peak time. This will directly tell you the number of computers you need to connect to the wireless network. Among these users you ... need to separate local users and those that will be accessing the network remotely. These may be your employees or clients.
Computer network installation can be daunting but with a few guidelines you can install a good network at your home or office. Networking allows computers to share peripherals, and allows one computer to backup the data of another. Also networks can enable a single computer to act as an Internet access point for the entire network without the inconvenience of fitting a modem and telephone extension for each computer.
What you need for a network install is to boot the installation kernel as well as the installation initrd on the remote computer. At the same time, you need to know about the IP-address that the computer will have. Lets suppose that you have a fixed IP-address. If you use dhcp, omit the network definitions and use the IP-address you get from your dhcp server.

The Network Client installations on each client computer do not need to be changed unless you are installing new or additional client computers. If so, use the client install on the new CD for each client computer.
