Netmeeting is a program available on your computer that lets you communicate with other people. When on campus, you can "netmeet" with anyone else on the campus network. Among other things, you can show someone else what is on your computer, and you can see what is on their's. With a telephone, it works great to ask and answer questions about your computer.

If Netmeeting is started for the first time, you will have to provide some information about yourself, e.g. First and Last Name, Email Address. Also choose the type of connection you have, and test your audio equipment.

netmeeting5.gif (29805 bytes) During installation, Netmeeting will automatically detect if you have a video system installed and configure itself accordingly. Make sure that both boxes are checked under "Sending and receiving video". The best video quality for videoconferencing is realized by setting the "Send image size" to small. Depending on your connection speed, you may need to adjust the slider under "Video quality". The slower your connection, the more you should move the slider to the left ("Faster video"). This will reduce the quality of the video, but will keep it from being too choppy.

While Netmeeting can interact with other Netmeeting units, they can ... be used to directly connect with other high-end types of videoconference systems that have better quality video and functionality. The quality of the video connection, however, is limited by NetMeeting's maximum speed of 128 kbps. If connected systems do not support the lower speed or do not provide transcodeing (support multiple speeds and protocols simultaneously) in a multi-user environment, the overall video experience may be less than optimal, even unsatisfactory or non-functional.

You will be presented with a tabbed dialog box like the one pictured below. The following illustrations represent the recommended settings for these options.
