Nelson

Although in the first season, Nelson seemed to be Bart's antagonist, he becomes Bart's friend in later episodes. In the earliest episodes, Lisa became the target of Nelson's bullying, which prompted Bart to defend her. His actions resulted in frequent beatings by Nelson and his gang, but finally ended when Bart received help from a shell-shocked Vietnam vet, who came up with the idea of standing up to Nelson and his gang by pelting them with water balloons. From that point on, Nelson gained respect for Bart, though he occasionally reverts back to his past behavior towards him, though much less severe.

Mountain biking in Nelson is the stuff of legend. Showcased in many mountain bike films, Nelson trails offer everything from gentle railway grades to steep, rooty technical tracks. For the hard core freestylers there are enough stunts, ladders and big drops to keep the adrenalin pumping long after the last epic ride of the day. With the breathtaking backdrop of the Selkirk Mountains, Nelson’s rides take the West Coast style and crank it up a notch.

Not much is written about the Nelson family car, although urban legend has it a 1932 Ford Roadster appeared in two episodes. Seems Ozzie's son Ricky was desperate to buy the car with earnings from the show (what kid wouldn't want a car like that), but like most fathers of that generation, Ozzie put his foot down and firmly refused. Today, a 1932 Ford Roadster, similar to the one that appeared on the show, sells for $46,500 high retail. In 1932, you could buy one for right around $460. Maybe Ozzie should have put his foot down on the Roadster's accelerator instead.
