After becoming a mother and releasing the less commercially successful Folklore (2003), she returned to prominence in 2006 with the release of Loose and its hit singles "Promiscuous", "Maneater", "Say It Right", and "All Good Things (Come to an End)".

Nelly Kim Furtado was born on December 2, 1978, in British Columbia, Canada. The daughter of Portuguese immigrants, Nelly expressed in an interest in performing at the age of 4, when she sang a duet with her mother at their local church. In subsequent years, Nelly Furtado began perfecting her singing skills while ... learning how to play a variety of instruments (including the trombone, guitar and ukulele). Once she hit her teens, Nelly Furtado started to write her own songs and perform with a Portuguese marching band. It wasn’t until she graduated from high school that she began to devote serious thought to starting her own band, which she finally did in 1997 along with hip-hop performer Tallis Newkirk.
