Nelly Furtado - Loose Nelly Furtado is the daughter of ethnically Portuguese parents. Growing up, Nelly Furtado was musically gifted and began learning trombone and ukulele at the age of 9. She learned keyboards at age 11 and was composing her own songs by 13. In addition to supporting her musical ambitions, Nelly Furtado's parents instilled an ethic of hard work that has served her well. After graduating from high school, Furtado moved to Toronto to pursue her musical dreams.

For her third album Loose, due out in June, 2006, Nelly Furtado turned to top hip hop producer Timbaland for artistic collaboration. The result is a much more dance and hip hop oriented album than in the past. She is releasing two different first singles from the album. "Maneater" is the lead single in Europe and the UK while "Promiscuous," which features rapping from Timbaland, is the opener in the US. The album will ... include "All Good Things," a track recorded with Coldplay's lead vocalist Chris Martin.

Nelly Furtado Nelly Furtado's debut album Whoa Nelly! was released in 2000 and spawned the hit single "I'm Like A Bird." The album went platinum in sales and in 2001 Furtado won four Juno awards for excellence from the Canadian music industry. After releasing numerous remixes, singles, soundtrack cuts and collaborations, Furtado released the full-length CD Folklore in 2003. Furtado was born in Canada, though her parents are of Portuguese descent.

Nelly Furtado Pregnant Nelly Furtado was born in Victoria, British Columbia to Portuguese immigrants from the Azores, Maria Manuela and António José Furtado. She was named after Soviet gymnast Nellie Kim. Raised in a Roman Catholic home, Furtado first sang at the age of four when she performed a duet with her mother at a church on Portugal Day. Although remaining unclear about her religious beliefs, she still affirms a belief in God, the Ten Commandments, and in avoiding the Seven Sins. She began playing instruments at the age of nine, learning the trombone, ukulele and, in later years, the guitar and keyboard.
