Neil Young: Music

Hasn't changed clothes since Woodstock. Artistically, Neil Young is a musician of the worst sort. At times he is a folky style musician while at other times he delivers crunching hard rock while dabbling in still other forms, including jazz and rockibilly. In essence, Neil Young is a Flip-Flopper.

Neil Young has one of the most distinct styles in modern American music, but he can be compared to the likes of Tom Petty and The Byrds. You can ... hear clear influences from Woody Guthrie, Bob Dylan, and The Beatles.
Neil Young's 1979 "Rust Never Sleeps" marked a major shift in artistic direction for both Young and the entire music industry. "Rust Never Sleeps" signaled Young's recognition that that there was new force in music -- namely punk -- and that the face of Rock-n-Roll would change forever.
In 1976, Young performed with The Band, Joni Mitchell, and other rock musicians in the high profile all-star concert The Last Waltz. The release of Martin Scorsese's movie of the concert was delayed while Scorsese unwillingly re-edited it to deemphasize the lump of cocaine that was clearly visible hanging from Young's nose during his performance of "Helpless."[23] Young later said, "I'm not proud of that," according to one of his biographers.
"Living With War" is way more about ideology than music, with Young's political statements standing front and center. Let's just say that you might like this album if you have Daily Kos set as your Internet home page. If your daily routine begins with Michelle Malkin or Power Line, "Living With War" is going to make you mad as hell. Which is pretty much the point.
