NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service) is more than just an action drama. With liberal doses of humor, it's a show that focuses on the sometimes complex and always amusing dynamics of a team forced to work together in high-stress situations. Led by NCIS Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs (Mark Harmon), a former Marine gunnery sergeant who's not afraid to bend the rules, the team faces new challenges in Season 3. They must somehow band together and recover after suffering the devastating loss of one of their special agents, Kate Todd (Sasha Alexander), to a terrorist at the close of season 2. Further complicating matters for Gibbs is Jennifer Shepard (Lauren Holly), Gibbs's former lover, who is the new director of NCIS. The NCIS team includes Special Agent Anthony DiNozzo (Michael Weatherly), an ex-homicide detective who may come off as the world's oldest frat boy but whose instincts in the field are unparalleled; forensic specialist Abby Sciuto (Pauley Perrette), a talented scientist whose dark wit matches her goth style and eclectic tastes; NCIS Special Agent Timothy McGee (Sean Murray), an MIT graduate whose brilliance with computers far overshadows his insecurities in the field; and Ziva David (Cote de Pablo), a former Mossad agent who shares a bond with Gibbs in desiring the death of his archnemesis, Ari, who killed Agent Todd.

Following the popularity of JAG, CBS has created a spin-off military drama called NCIS (Naval Criminal Investigative Service). NCIS follows an elite naval investigation team that travels the world solving crimes involving members of the Navy or Marine Corps. The team is led by crack investigator, and former gunnery sergeant, Special Agent Leroy Jethro Gibbs, played by Mark Harmon (Chicago Hope). Other members of the team include Anthony DiNozzo, an ex-homicide detective with the personality of a frat boy played by Michael Weatherly (Dark Angel), and goth forensic expert Abby Sciuto, played by Pauley Perrette (Time of Your Life). The team ... includes meek computer genius Timothy McGee, played by Sean Murray (JAG) and seasoned medical examiner Dr. Donald "Ducky" Mallard, played by David McCallum (The Man From U.N.C.L.E.). It might take place in the military, but NCIS has set itself apart from JAG with its own quirky sense of humor and mismatched team dynamics.
