After concerns about the safety of Black athletes in Nazi Germany were put to rest by the International Olympic Committee, most African American newspapers opposed a boycott of the 1936 Olympics. Black journalists often underscored the hypocrisy of pro-boycotters who did not first address the problem of discrimination against Black athletes in the United States. Writers for such papers as The Philadelphia Tribune and The Chicago Defender argued that athletic victories by Blacks would undermine Nazi racial views of “Aryan” supremacy and foster a new sense of Black pride at home.

Harmony, Barry Manilow's Broadway-bound musical about a singing group in Nazi Germany, is finally getting another full production. Broadway.com has learned that the show will begin performances at Fort Lauderdale's Parker Playhouse on October 21. Harmony is based on the real-life story of the Comedian Harmonists: six young men in the 1920s who rose from unemployed street musicians to become world-famous entertainers. Their sophisticated music and physical comedy made them stars, but their religious composition--a mixture of Jews and gentiles--inevitably led to drama as the Nazi party rose to power. Harmony features music by Manilow and book and lyrics by Bruce Sussman.

The very moment when Nazi Germany had just unconditionally surrendered, the confirmation of that historic moment was forwarded from the European theater of war to the Pentagon-Military Intelligence Division. The method of transfer was by ticker tape. The very first transmission signified the end of the European War which Third Reich had started. Since 1945 only two people have handled the ticker tape. This piece of living history is the first documentation that the war in Europe had ended. This is a tribute to all of the people who fought to defeat the Nazi war machine.

The mass murder of Jews in Germany, as well as throughout Europe, is generally attributed to the Nazis - but committed Nazis in the German government could not have achieved what they did alone. They had to have help from others throughout society and a source of significant, critical help was the Catholic Church. Yes, the Catholic Church was actively complicit in the mass murder of Jews.

The Nazis proceeded to scrap their official alliance with the conservative nationalists and began to introduce Nazi ideology and Nazi symbolism into all major aspects of life in Germany. Schoolbooks were either rewritten or replaced, and schoolteachers who did not support Nazification of the curriculum were fired.
