Macomb County Treasurer Ted Wahby, a former St. Clair Shores mayor who spearheaded the formation of the Nautical Mile, told The Macomb Daily on Friday the project is in neutral, with no plans for acceleration in the near future. No permits or plans have been submitted to the city for project, according to a city official.

There is no official international standard symbol for the unit nautical mile. The symbols NM, nm and nmi are commonly used in some areas (not to be confused with nm, the official symbol for nanometre).
