National League East: Teams
built 201 days ago
During the National and American Leagues Continuous stint in Major League Baseball (MLB), one more league came up in 1914, the Federal League, it only lasted one year and is now defunct. Expansion to include more teams has occurred four time in the American league since it's inception, in 1961, 1969, 1977 and 1998. In 1902, both major league signed a new National Agreement, which in turn led to the most coveted title in Major League Baseball (MLB), the famous World Series championship title. The championship is played between both the leagues Pennant winners. The game has been an annual event since 1903, except in 1904 and 1994. One team has dominated the World Series, capturing 26 titles in 39 appearances, the New York Yankees.

The National League West is a close race. The Los Angeles Dodgers have finally opened up a sizable lead over the hometown San Francisco Giants and San Diego Padres after all three teams had stints in first place. The Dodgers will win the National League West with dominating pitching and timely hitting.

For the first 96 years of its coexistence with the American League, National League teams faced their A.L. counterparts only in exhibition games or in the World Series. Beginning in 1997... interleague games have been played during the regular ("championship") season, and count in the standings.

Maybe the fact that so many National League clubs are in the race inadvertently shows that it is a weaker league, especially since all the teams in Wild Card contention simply have a winning percentage of .500. The current Wild Card leader in the National League is the San Diego Padres and they are three games over .500. The entire league is in this race. It’s ridiculous.

The National League operated with six clubs during 1877 and 1878. Over the next several years, teams joined and left the struggling league, except for the Boston and Chicago members. When all eight participants for 1881 returned for 1882, the first offseason without turnover in membership, the "circuit" was two nearly straight lines between the anchor cities, with Detroit, Buffalo, Troy, and Worcester on the northern route, and Providence and Cleveland constituting its southern.

At 16-8, the Mets were well ahead of the rest of the National League East, and were regarded by many as the best team in Major League Baseball. Jheri-curled starting pitcher Pedro Martinez proved he still had the juice with a 5-0 start and a 2.94 ERA, David Wright showed signs of superstardom with 18 RBI in the first month, and Delgado was hitting baseballs like they stole his paycheck. The slugger had nine home runs, 20 RBI and a .298 batting average.
