The cheerleading team participates in a NCA camp which stands for National Cheerleading Association. The camp is held 3 days in August. The team practices all day and if the team prefers and you live close enough to home you could commute, otherwise you dorm at the camp.

Gastelum was part of a contingent of girls selected by the National Cheerleading Association to be on the NCA's All-American Team. She performed on the field at Dolphin Stadium during the national anthem before the game between Kansas and Virginia Tech.

If a team places high enough at selected USASF/IASF sanctioned national competitions, they could be included in the Cheerleading Worlds and compete against teams from all over the world. Also they could get money for placing.[1]

Gastelum got the opportunity to go to Miami after she was noticed by NCA officials during a cheerleading camp she attended with the Rincon/University High cheer team last summer in Flagstaff. That attention gave her the chance to try out for the All-American Team. The tryout was pressure-packed.

With the win, the Martin cheerleaders celebrate their 16th first-place award in the NCA’s national championship, competition officials said. The victories occurred over a number of years and speak well of team members’ dedication, said Diane Little, Martin cheerleading coach.
