Natalie Portman is an Israeli-American Oscar-nominated actress, who became an international star with her role as Padmé Amidala in the Star Wars prequel trilogy. She is ... an advocate of many social causes. Natalie has been involved in promoting environmental causes for many years -- at 12 she was part of an environmental song and dance troupe. She is also an ardent "animal lover" and has been a vegetarian since she was 8 years old. Natalie Portman has also been deeply involved in helping to end poverty. Complete with a gleaming smile and an unadulterated, Winona-like Fountain-of-Youth baby face, looking at Natalie Portman is like listening to ELO’s “Mr. Blue Sky” after nailing that long-awaited promotion or acing that advanced chemistry exam: pure bliss. With a beautiful youthfulness that can trick anyone into believing that they’re a pedophile, Natalie, who’s perfectly legal at 23, is ... exceptionally mature and intelligent. Born in Jerusalem, Israel in 1981, Natalie’s family left for the United States when she was only three years old after he doctor father was offered a residency at a Maryland hospital. Discovered by a model scout at age eleven, Natalie quickly dumped the modeling gig and decided that she wanted to fulfill a career as an actress. After attending the Stage Door Manor Performing Camp the following three summers, the young squirt debuted in the 1994 film, “The Professional,” as a young girl who idolizes a hit man, and became an instant hit with critics all around the world.

Natalie Portman is having a big hair day. The wavy tresses she shaved to play strong-willed Evey in the political action drama “V for Vendetta” are growing out in cute, sprightly curls that frame her oval face. Portman calls her low-maintenance new ‘do “pretty fun.”
Three years after famously telling Zach Braff that the Shins will ''change your life'' in Garden State, Natalie Portman is once again using music to transform people's worlds. She's put together Big Change: Songs for FINCA, a $7.99 charity album available through iTunes, mixing together 16 songs from artists like Norah Jones and Antony & the Johnsons, and including exclusive tracks from the likes of M. Ward and Devendra Banhart — even a shiny new Shins remix. Net proceeds from the album — due Oct. 30 — will benefit FINCA (villagebanking.org), an organization that helps alleviate poverty in developing countries; she's worked with the group since 2003. Caught in an appropriately charitable mood, the actress offered EW some time to talk music, movies, and celebrity activism.
