Nat's early career was mainly piano playing. Nat played a lot in a trio with one of his brothers. The trio did not have a drummer because Nat's piano playing kept rhythm so well. By the time Nat was 20 his music was known in every beer joint in L.A.
Nat produced and Ossie was the engineer. The LP took so little time to record since Geoff’s band knew the songs backwards. "In at 7, out by 11. Simple really! Some of the young ones today won’t believe how long it took to record that whole album."
Nat only had children in his second marriage with Maria. Their first child was Natalie Maria, who was born on the 6/2/1950. She was born a few months before the record of "Mona Lisa" was released. She was more often known in the family by her nickname "Sweetie".
Nat "King" Cole had two overlapping careers. He was one of the truly great swing pianists, inspired by Earl Hines and a big influence on Oscar Peterson. And he was a superb pop ballad singer whose great commercial success in that field unfortunately
Like Ossie Byrne, Nat lied about his age to enlist in the Airforce at 17. Nat says his troopship, President Coolidge, docked in Brisbane on Boxing Day, 1941. He worked for Aircorps Supply, firstly in the 4th US Air Depot, then the 81st. He was stationed in Brisbane, then, again like Ossie Byrne, at Finchaven PNG, though he and Ossie didn’t meet until 1966. Nat married a Brisbane girl, Alma, in 1944, then returned to the States after the war. The Kipners came back to Brisbane in the early 1950s.
Nat Dunn Before WestLake, Nat worked as a business strategy consultant at Zefer, an Internet consultancy that was acquired by NEC. Earlier in his career, he served as the national director of sales for StoryFirst Communications, an American-owned television network operating in Russia. Nat won the 2001 Contribution to Society Award from the Massachusetts Interactive Media Council for helping a Boston-area nonprofit develop and deliver a training program for low-income individuals. Nat is a certified technical trainer, a certification recognized by companies such as Microsoft, Macromedia, and Adobe. He holds a B.A. from Pomona College and an M.B.A. from Harvard Business School.
