In March 2005, Campbell allegedly slapped assistant Amanda Brack and beat her around the head with a BlackBerry personal organiser. Campbell's spokesman Rob Shuter denied the incident ever took place. In July 2006, Brack began legal proceedings against Campbell, claiming Campbell abused her verbally and physically on three continents. Brack accused Campbell of assault, battery, and infliction of emotional distress in incidents that started a month after she began working for her in February 2005. Campbell countersued for an unknown amount.[13]

Throughout her career, Campbell has developed a reputation for being notoriously difficult to work with. Her temper reportedly possessed a short and fiery fuse. She has ... been known to be perpetually late to assignments or appointments. In addition, she has earned a reputation for making selfish demands, such as insisting on being the first and last to appear on the runway at fashion shows. It was this difficulty which supposedly led to her temporary dismissal from Elite. Other reports, however, indicated that she resigned and was later hired back.

The DA's office and Campbell's lawyer are apparently working on a deal whereby Campbell will cop some community service in lieu of hard time. This will likely not... be purging New York's mean streets as did Boy George last summer - sentenced "to sweep sidewalks for five days...as punishment for falsely reporting a burglary at his downtown apartment" - since her lawyer David Breitbart "suggested that cleaning up was just not Ms Campbell's style".

Swan is a novel co-authored by Naomi that was published in 1995 by Heinemann/Mandarin. Later she would add the book Naomi, which contains some of her best photo collections from her career and features work from such leading photographers as Herb Ritts, Steven Meisel, Richard Avedon, Ellen Von Unwerth, and Peter Lindbergh.
