Typically, experience and great job references are essential in finding great nanny positions. Education helps nanny candidates get great jobs as well. Some jobs require a U.S. driver’s license. Nannies must be legally eligible to work in the United States, (see Eligibility to Work in the United States below).
Using a nanny agency when finding a nanny job is often a good idea because many agencies offer quite a few bonus items that aren't included when you find a nanny position on your own. A nanny agency will basically take care of most everything included in your nanny job search. If utilizing a nanny agency you can expect to have the following benefits when deciding to go with one:
Indirectly, yes -- although not an agency and not affiliated with any agencies, Nanny.com was created to help you find the nanny job you want. The site is objective, straightforward and increasingly comprehensive. Articles here (such as Find A Child Care Job are written by a veteran (but former) agency owner (see About Us and Find An Agency). Do your homework here (read Interviewing, References and Contracts) and you will find a better job sooner.

If you are interviewing for a nanny job it isn't unreasonable to ask the family you are interviewing with for references. You should readily supply your references for a family to check out and a family should do the same for you. If you are offered a nanny position with a family, before you accept you should check the family's references. If the family has had previous nannies, ask for their names and numbers so you can check to see what working for the family was like, how the kids were and why that person left the nanny position. If the family has never had a nanny before, you can ask for numbers for past child care providers, such as daycare centers or babysitters. If none of those exist, don't be shy to ask for personal references for the family.
There are plenty of other benefits that one can reap from having a nanny job. But most importantly, a nanny job is quite emotionally fulfilling as well. Those who love working with children will definitely love nanny jobs. Those who have never experienced taking care of kids before can test their limits and prepare, perhaps, for when they will have their own kids as well. Taking care of children is something that everyone should know how to do, and yet, it is something that most people generally find to be a daunting task. At closer look... it is not.
Most nannies and agency owners recommend that nanny candidates dress business casual for job interviews. Interviewees should choose clean, well-pressed clothes. In-home job candidates should avoid wearing large jewelry, heavy make-up, clothing that exposes tattoos, and tight or low-cut shirts. Prospective employees should not smell like cigarette smoke, coffee, or wear cologne or perfume.
