Ah, listen to the luxuriant, warm, glorious voice of Nancy Wilson, and just try telling yourself that this remarkable woman has reached her 50th year in show business. As she says in the first song, "Some things improve with age," and she's living proof. In a dozen generous tracks, Wilson joins forces with such jazz giants as Toot Thielemans, George Shearing, Phil Woods, Gary Burton, Paquito D'Rivera, Rufus Reid, Joe Negri, Bill Watrous, Kenny Lattimore and Ivan Lins.

Nancy Wilson has worked on campus for 16 years. In February 2002, Nancy joined Resource Management & Planning as a budget analyst with many of her responsibilities centering on developing and delivering training programs. Prior to joining the Resource Management & Planning, Nancy worked as the department budget analyst for Information Resources and as an analyst with the California Animal Health & Food Safety Laboratory System (CAHFS). Prior to working at UC Davis, Nancy worked as a business officer for Bank of America.
In 1955, Wilson graduated from her Columbus high school. Unsure of her future as an entertainer, she entered college to pursue teaching credentials. She spent one year at Ohio's Central State College before dropping out and following her original ambitions. She auditioned and won a spot with Rusty Bryant's Carolyn Club Band in 1956, and spent most of the next three years traveling across the United States and Canada as that ensemble's female vocalist.

Nancy Wilson blurs the line between jazz singer and pop singer, preferring to be called a "song stylist." Born in Ohio in 1937, she is younger than Elvis, Little Richard and Esther Phillips, and only a year older than Etta James and Tina Turner. Yet, stylistically speaking, she is worlds away from these rhythm-rocking contemporaries. Nancy is more like an earlier generation of vocalists such as Nat King Cole, Sarah Vaughan, or Billy Eckstine.

By 1966 Wilson was earning in excess of $1,000,000 per year. Her popularity was beginning to spread across the sea to Japan, where she remains a favorite today. In addition to her live performances, she was sought after for television work. During the 1967-68 season, she had her own variety program, The Nancy Wilson Show. Other appearances included The Tonight Show, The Merv Griffin Show, The Today Show, The Sammy Davis Jr. Show, The Flip Show, The Carol Burnett Show, and The Andy Williams Show. The only medium Wilson resisted was film, not because she did not want to make movies, but because she had difficulty finding roles that she cared to perform.
