As anticipated, marine diamond production from the JO mining area in DFI's ML111 licence off Luderitz, Namibia, has improved. This follows the recoveries of the previous two months which were seasonally affected by winter conditions. Production for the month of September was 1,618 carats from 4,060 diamonds with an average size of 0.40 carats/stone.

The reopening of certain mines such as the Tsumeb-area mines, the Skorpion zinc project and the expansion of fluorspar and gold mines have added renewed vigour to mining activity in Namibia. All this, alongside higher global commodity prices are encouraging further exploration for base metals, diamonds and gold. Specifically, the potential for diamond resource development remains strong, and production is expected to increase consistently over the next five years.
