Episodes like this one are proof that the Mythbusters methodology is in fact fairly scientific. Their methods are just rigorous enough for most of the myths they test, and results are subject to peer review (namely, viewers, of whom many are scientists).

Well, the Mythbusters didn't have that problem with a frozen chicken. They firedone through several things. Well, actually, they pretty well vaporized the chicken, so maybe that doesn't count. On the other hand, moms everywhere have told their kids to stop playing with their food. Happily, Port Lincoln has a solution to their dilemma. They are now substituting a fake tuna for the real thing.

The Mythbusters obtained a boat which was identical to the model Bond used in the movie. They then converted it so that it could be remote controlled and built a makeshift ramp in Yosemite Lake. They even put a barge with a car under the ramp to simulate the exact scene from the movie. Adam drove the boat at the ramp at a speed of 45 miles per hour, but lost control of the boat at the last second. As a result, the boat managed to clear the car, but flipped in the process. However, seeing that there was no visible damage to the boat, the Mythbusters decided that the myth was plausible.

Since its inception, Mythbusters has slowly built a cultlike fan base that includes everyone from 8-year-olds to bomb experts to grandmothers. Starting its fifth season in January, the show is now broadcast on four continents. To producers, the show's popularity stems in part from its participatory ethos. Roughly 30 percent of the myths tested come from viewer suggestions. "The show is really about involving people in the process," says Rees.

In a recent Mythbusters episode, bullets were placed in an oven to see if they could kill someone. They found that when the bullet exploded, the casing seemed to do more damage than the slug. What a great opportunity to apply conservation of momentum.
