Mythbusters: Discovery Channel

MythBusters has had an interesting history of DVD releases. Up until 2007, all DVDs that were released were only available through the Discovery Channel's store, either on-line or physical. The first release were five 1-episode discs, that were ... packaged together. Later, a DVD containing the first three pilots was released, as was a Season One DVD set, followed by a Season Two set. For some reason, the Season Two set only contained the second half of season two, so Season One, Volume Two was released, which was actually the first half of Season Two. Somewhere along the line, Discovery started selling most of the episodes of the show as 1-episode discs.

MythBusters is broadcast in several countries, primarily on each country's edition of the Discovery Channel. In some countries, the English speech is either subtitled in the relevant language and the United States customary units, still used throughout, are converted to metric, or the narrator is dubbed, or the whole show is voice-overed. In the UK, Rufus Hound narrates the BBC Two version of MythBusters, while Robin Banks or Daisy Beaumont narrates the Discovery Channel's version. Excerpts of the show are ... shown as part of the Beyond Television-produced Beyond Tomorrow. In Australia MythBusters is shown on SBS and on Foxtel/Austar Satelite Television. In New Zealand, it is shown on Prime TV and the Discovery Channel on Sky Digital.

As part of its complementary on-air/online strategy, Discovery is actively expanding its programming franchises dedicated to popular science and popular technology, such as the hit TV series MYTHBUSTERS and HOW IT'S MADE. The company is developing and producing additional programming in these genres that is easily edited to short video clips that can be utilized to enrich the content on HowStuffWorks and Discovery's other online platforms.

Along with Dirty Jobs, MythBusters ranks among Discovery Channel's most popular series; last season's January opener attracted more than 2.6 million viewers. "I hate to use the word rabid, but (the show's fans) are vested and loyal," says Discovery programming executive Mary Donohue.
