Mysterio: Wwe Championship
built 201 days ago
One of the biggest highlights for Mysterio was his WrestleMania 22 (2006) victory over Randy Orton and Kurt Angle in a triple-threat match to capture the World Heavyweight Championship. It was his first title run, but a reign some say was way too short.

After years of plying his trade in Mexico, Mysterio made the jump to the underground hit Extreme Championship Wrestling promotion in the United States. He then moved on to Ted Turner’s World Championship Wrestling, where he quickly went from virtual unknown to crowd favorite. Despite his popularity as a masked luchador, WCW unmasked a reluctant Gutiérrez – a move that would disgrace Mysterio in Mexico. His new look would consist of a dye job and faux horns. When WWE purchased the ailing WCW, Mysterio took a self-imposed hiatus. Months later, Gutiérrez re-emerged on WWE – masked, again.

In his debut match on Extreme Championship Wrestling (ECW), Mysterio would defeat Psicosis. This match was Mysterio’s first major impact in the world of American pro wrestling, despite the fact that he had previously been seen on the pay per view WCW When Worlds Collide match. Mysterio would from then on become one of the ECW’s main attractions, alongside a number of other luchadores. Later, Mysterio would appear on the first two ECW One Night Stand reunion shows.

Mysterio is known for his aerial wrestling techniques, which kick-started the "cruiserweight" revolution in the United States of America in the late '90's. He has won the WCW/WWE Cruiserweight championship eight times - more than anyone else in history. He's touted as the greatest "underdog" champion of all time, given his height and weight compared to his opponents.

The 619 - Named after the local area code in Mysterio's hometown in California, the 619 was created when Mysterio came to WWE to go with his Hurricanrana. The move succeeded so much that Mysterio eventually became a World Champion because of it. The key to the maneuver is to have Mysterio's opponent near the ropes. Once Mysterio has managed to trip up his opponent, stringing them on one of the ropes, he runs to the other side of the ring, picking up momentum. When he comes back, Mysterio uses the ropes, swinging through them and kicking his opponent square in the face. With the opponent ... stunned, Mysterio has the option of Dropping the Dime or landing the West Coast Pop. Decisions, decisions!

Mysterio quickly made an impact in WCW with his first Cruiserweight title reign. In October 1997, at Halloween Havoc, Mysterio won his second Cruiserweight Championship from real-life friend Eddie Guerrero in a "title vs. mask" match. The match was so highly acclaimed for its utter fluency and technicality that it was voted Match of the Year. At this point, Mysterio was a staple of WCW's roster.
