Music Television: Mtv Networks
built 632 days ago
Music video and MTV are major ingredients of television programming internationally. MTV Europe, launched in 1987, was followed by an Asian service in 1991 and MTV Latino in 1993. VH1 seems poised to follow a similar course, having established a European service in 1994. Both economically and aesthetically, MTV has wrought major changes in the entertainment industries. By combining music with television in a new way, MTV has charted a path for both industries (and movies as well) into a future of postmodern synergy.

MTV Networks Music Group's vast array of television and digital platforms will allow for extensive distribution of Gain's unique content, beginning with MTV. Various projects will bring together comic book publishers, creators and distributors to create and market existing and original content produced to maximize distribution and build a broader fan base from the traditional niche market for comics and graphic novels. In addition, forthcoming projects will be distributed across other new media formats outside of the MTV Networks' brands.

Kevin was drawn to Austin by its music (and a friend's wedding) in 1981 and has been promoting Austin music on the radio and television here ever since. In 1990, he helped start 107.1 KGSR Radio Austin, where he hosted the morning show until last April, when he resigned to devote his full attention to ME. Kevin’s first involvement with music television came through his 5 years of service as chairman of the Austin Music Commission. He was asked to help supervise the operation of the old Austin Music Network through a period of its transition. When the City of Austin said it would cease funding of the channel, Kevin met Connie Wodlinger and worked with her to create a privately-funded model that would maintain a commitment to promoting Austin music and entertainment. Kevin lives in Oak Hill with his wife Melissa and his son Chris.

The devil might have gone down to Georgia, but he probably watches Country Music Television (CMT) during breaks from stealing souls. A unit of MTV Networks (which itself is a subsidiary of Viacom), the company airs a variety of country music programming including videos from top country artists, live concerts, reality shows (The Ultimate Coyote Ugly Search), artist biography specials, as well as syndicated shows such as The Dukes of Hazzard. Launched in 1983, CMT reaches about 83 million US households. In addition, the company's Web site provides news, music, and related information on all things country music.

MTV is Music Television. It is the music authority where young adults turn to find out what’s happening and what’s next in music and popular culture. MTV reaches 412 million households worldwide, and is the #1 Media Brand in the world. Only MTV can offer the consistently fresh, honest, groundbreaking, fun and inclusive youth-oriented programming found nowhere else in the world. MTV is a network that transcends all the clutter, reaching out beyond barriers to everyone who’s got eyes, ears and a television set.

Glenn D. Daniels was the creator, founder and first president of the network, originally called "CMTV" but always "Country Music Television." (The "V" was dropped in response to a complaint by competitor MTV). CMT(V) beat The Nashville Network (TNN) on the air by 2 days and became the chief competition to TNN until Gaylord Entertainment Company (then-owner of TNN) bought the financially-strapped network in 1991. CMT was positioned to play 24-hour country music videos, while TNN was geared toward programming lending itself to a "country lifestyle".
