Multimedia literacy is a new aspect of literacy that is being recognised as technology expands the way people communicate. The concept of Literacy emerged as a measure of the ability to read and write. In modern context, the word means reading and writing at a level adequate for written communication. A more fundamental meaning is now needed to cope with the numerous media in use, perhaps meaning a level that enables one to successfully function at certain levels of a society. Multimedia is the use of several different forms of media to convey information. Several are already a part of the canon of global communication and publication: (text, audio, graphics, animation, video, and interactivity).
Multimedia for Mobile Devices is an exploration of traditional and interactive media for cell phones. The class will involve discussion of the various types of cell phone technologies here and abroad, and then take a look at how those technologies can adapt web and video media for cell phone presentation. Finally, students will produce interactive applications and games in the Java and Flash Lite platforms.
Software: iView Multimedia has today announced iView MediaPro 2.0. Version 2.0 increases capacity to 128,000 media items per catalog while reducing catalog size, enhanced drag and drop support and image support, and more output formats including PDF, HTML and QuickTime movies.

Chad Udell, an instructor in the Multimedia Program and a certified Flex Developer Community Champion, will be giving a lecture/demonstration on how to use Adobe Flex, Adobe's framework for building rich internet applications. The lecture will be held in the Horowitz Auditorium, room 126 in the Global Communication Center at 7:00 PM.

In addition, though not required, it’s recommended that you meet with a multimedia advisor before registering for multimedia courses.
