Muirfield Village is an upscale golf-oriented community located in the Columbus suburb of Dublin, Ohio. Founded by Jack Nicklaus, the village contains a golf course that is home to the Memorial Tournament each year. A statue of the founder can be found along Muirfield Drive. Muirfield Village plays host to the nationally known Memorial Tournament each year on Memorial Day weekend. The tournament began in 1973.

[I]t is surprising and disappointing that Muirfield Village did not have more of an architectural influence over other designers of the era. Regrettably, it mostly had a maintenance influence as others saw that it possible for courses to be in comparable condition to Augusta National. The superior conditioning (where else do they actually sod bad divot holes?!) seems almost to overshadow the merits of this first rate design.

Today the years' ongoing changes at Muirfield Village have come home to roost for McBride and his new company, On Course Management. As an independent contractor, he deals in maintenance, design, renovations and agronomic consulting. Lumping it all together, he says he specializes in the many strategic, risk-reward intricacies of updating a golf course to make it more competitive with the advances in technology and the talents of the modern player.

The scoring at Muirfield Village couldn't have been better with pure greens, stifling heat and calm conditions. Leading the way at The Memorial was Sean O'Hair, who played great golf for the second straight tournament except for a blemish on the 17th, of all holes. He still managed a 7-under 65 and was tied with the Australian duo of Rod Pampling and Nick O'Hern.
