Motorhead: Bands
built 179 days ago
Motorhead is a true original. Ever since vocalist/bassist Lemmy unleashed the British band on the world in 1975, multiple generations of music fans have embraced its one-of-a-kind brand of eardrum-battering, brain-bashing, utterly uncompromising rock 'n' roll. And now Motorhead is finally being honored with a proper box set.

Motorhead (Chiswick) is the band's first album to see the light of day. The guys' fan base builds and they start earning a reputation for being very loud, raw, dirty and all those good things heavy rock n' roll should be.

By 1984 Motorhead had morphed into a bigger beast, despite having ... lost drummer Phil Taylor to Robertson's new band Operator. Re-emerging as a quartet with the addition of two new guitarists, Phil Campbell and Wurzel, and former Saxon skinsman Pete Gill, Motorhead persevered, breaking new ground in New Zealand and Australia. 1984's best of collection 'No Remorse' (released on September 15th 1984) marked their last album for Bronze. Featuring the now legendary Motorhead anthem 'Killed By Death', the album sold well and gave the new line-up of the band a new lease of life (despite its title).

This banner year, Motorhead's 20th anniversary, sees changes and celebrations. Wurzel leaves the band at the end of the making of "Sacrifice". Motorhead is a three-piece once again and their shows are stronger than ever. CMC signs the guys and releases "Sacrifice State Side". There is a historic party at year's end, marking two decades of Motor-mania and Lemmy's 50th birthday. Metallica flies down especially for the tribute at the Whisky.

Motorhead fans will tell you that there's nothing like a live Motorhead show and "No Sleep 'Til Hammersmith" proves that. The band is in top form as they rage through hits like "Ace of Spades," "No Class," "Overkill," "Bomber" and more. The original "Hammersmith" album is a true classic in the heavy metal genre; this new version is an enhanced, improved and complete edition.

Although Motorhead is not a true punk band, they use a punk-like energy to infuse their music with the palpably raw feel generally associated with the punk movement. When people hear Motorhead’s lyrics and see their tough, biker-inspired appearance they know they’re in the presence of a high powered metal band. And any band that has to think about transferring their work from old technology to something more current must have something that stands the test of time.
