TOLEDO, Ohio, Sept. 13 /PRNewswire/ -- Dana Corporation (NYSE: DCN) has been chosen to supply the anti-lock braking systems (ABS) for all BMW motorcycles, including the new K1200LT luxury motorcycle. The ABS will feature Dana's Mark II technology and will be manufactured by Dana's FTE Automotive group in Ebern, Germany. "The Mark II ABS provides high comfort combined with maximum deceleration and vehicle stability on all road surfaces," said Bernhard Fischenich, vice president and general manager of FTE Automotive. "It features high durability under the most severe driving conditions. "Whether for motorcycles, passenger cars, or trucks, our brake systems are characterized by innovative technology," said Bill Carroll, president of Dana's Automotive Systems Group. Two-wheeled motorcycles are more difficult to operate and more unstable than four-wheeled cars and trucks. Some roadway design and maintenance features add additional risks. Other vehicle drivers may not expect to see motorcycles on the road, may not watch for them, and may not know how to accommodate them in traffic. And when they crash, motorcycles provide almost no protection to their riders.

These actions, if performed on purpose, are known as wheelies and stoppies respectively. If carried past the point of recovery the resulting upset is known as "looping" the vehicle.
