Motocross boots are preferred, but are not required. You must have boots that lace up over your ankle, and they must have a hard sole. Something like a work boot is good. High top running shoes or hiking boots are not permitted.

Motocross is distinct from other forms of motorsport in having a mass start, where all the riders line up alongside each other, starting simultaneously and racing the race distance. The first rider across the finish is the winner of that "moto"; the number of motos may vary and points are added up to determine the final winner.

Riding for the 2005 season in the 250 class will be top rider, Kevin Windham and two time Motocross and US Open Champion, Mike LaRocco. They will be joined by the powerhouse team of 125 class riders: Josh Grant, Billy Laninovich, Joaquim Rodrigues and Tommy Hahn who will all race aboard the Honda CR 250F.

When you hear Motocross referred to as one of the most physically demanding sports in the World, they are referring to the professional level. The sport is very physically demanding at any level, but the faster a rider goes and the longer the race, the more demanding the sport is physically.

Motocross machines have extensive suspension to enable riders to tackle large jumps and ride at speed over the rough terrain. The advent of improved suspension transformed motocross from its scrambling origins with natural track to the current form today, with multiple jumps that would have previously been impossible.
