Other Donors: In 2003, official development assistance (ODA) to Morocco declined by about 6% as compared to the previous year ($316 million vs. $336 million). Grants represented about 72% of the total. The main characteristic of ODA this year is a significant shift from macro-economic to infrastructure aspects, including roads, ports, railroads, telecommunications, airports, hydro-electricity and irrigation. Assistance to social sectors stabilized at about one third of total ODA. The European Union provided almost half (48.9%) of the foreign assistance. In 2003, USAID was the second bilateral donor, on a par with Germany (4.5%) and behind France (21.6%).

Morocco began to assert its independence after World War II with the formation of the Istiqlal (Independence) Party. Active opposition to foreign domination erupted in 1953 after France deposed the highly respected Sultan Muhammad V and replaced him with his unpopular uncle.

Morocco uses the metric system for weights and measures. Newer buildings use 220 V / 50 Hz power supplies, while older buildings use 110 V / 50 Hz. Some buildings have a mix of both, so if you're unsure, ask before plugging something in. The sockets are similar to those used in France and other parts of Europe.
