Meknes, known as "the Versailles of Morocco" is one of the countries most striking imperial cities. Meknes was founded in the 11th century and initially was a military settlement. In 1672, it became the capital of Morocco under Sultan Ismail. Like the other smaller regions of Morocco, Meknes has been low on the investors and developers radar. Have you found any investment bargains in Meknes and what do you feel about the local property market? Share your views here.
At 172,402 sq.mi, Morocco is the 57th largest country in the world, after Uzbekistan). It is comparable in size to Iraq, and is somewhat larger than the US state of California. Algeria borders Morocco to the east and southeast though the border between the two countries has been closed since 1994. There are ... four Spanish enclaves on the Mediterranean coast: Ceuta, Melilla, Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera, Peñón de Alhucemas, and the Chafarinas islands, as well as the disputed islet Perejil. Off the Atlantic coast the Canary Islands belong to Spain, whereas Madeira to the north is Portuguese. To the north, Morocco is bordered by and controls part of the Strait of Gibraltar, giving it power over the waterways in and out of the Mediterranean sea.
Morocco Morocco gained its independence from France fifty years ago today. The Berbers first inhabited the region, and Arabs conquered the country. In the late 19th century, Spain and France became more interested in the area of Morocco and, in 1912, the Treaty of Fez made Morocco a protectorate of France. Casablanca is the country's largest city and its economic capital; Rabat is the political capital.

Morocco's national flag Morocco is dominated by the mountains in the north, and some fertile valleys and the green belt along the Atlantic half the way to Agadir. The south is totally dominated by the desert. Morocco's main natural resources are phosphates and citruses. Another important source of income for the country is tourism. Fishing is rich in the south, but is still little exploited.

Morocco is located at the crossroads of several worlds: African, Mediterranean, Christian, and Islamic. From these varied influences the country has forged a distinctive culture, apparent in its arts and architecture, language, cuisine, and outlook on the world. Spain lies directly across the Strait of Gibraltar from Morocco, only 13 km (8 mi) distant. For 44 years, from 1912 to 1956, Morocco was divided into protectorates and ruled by France and Spain. Even today, two Spanish enclaves—Ceuta and Melilla—on the Mediterranean coast remain within Morocco, and small islands off the coast ... belong to Spain.
