Morgan Pressel: Years
built 190 days ago
The event, aimed to fund breast cancer research, will honor Morgan Pressel's mother, the late Kathy Krickstein Pressel, who lost her fight against breast cancer when Morgan was just 15 years of age. All of the net proceeds from the inaugural pro-am style event will benefit the Lynn Cancer Institute's Breast Cancer Center at the Boca Raton Community Hospital, where Kathy was treated during her courageous multi-year battle with the illness.

Morgan Pressel won the 2005 U.S. Women's Amateur on Sunday with a 9-and-8 victory over Maru Martinez. The victory capped an amazing summer for the 17-year-old Floridian, who tied for low amateur at the U.S. Women's Open and reached the third round of the U.S. Girls' Junior.

Morgan Pressel is just like any other 19–year–old girl: she loves shopping, she has a serious relationship with her blackberry, and she pre–ordered Harry Potter. Except this teen "golf phenom", a name dubbed by the press, is the crème de la crème of emerging women's golfers. By age 12, Morgan started accruing golf titles and she was the youngest girl to qualify for the U.S. Women's Open.

Pressel entered her senior year this fall after an amazing three-month span that would make for a fascinating "How I Spent My Summer Vacation" essay. Quite possibly the top amateur women's golfer in the world, Pressel started her summer by finishing tied for second at the U.S. Women's Open in June. She was tied for the lead going down the stretch on the final day but fell short when Birdie Kim hit a miraculous shot from a bunker on the 18th hole to secure the win.

As an errant iron shot sails left of the 18th green and into a deep and imposing bunker, Morgan Pressel does as she often does. She yells at herself, flaps her arms in disgust and huffs like an 18-year-old girl who didn’t get her way.

Morgan was born in Tampa, Florida. She grew up playing golf (starting when she was 8 years old) at St. Andrews Country Club in Boca Raton Florida where she lives with her grandparents. She graduated from St. Andrews School in Boca Raton.
