Five months later, Pressel was in the Solheim Cup, and it was a struggle over the first few days in cold, soggy weather. She stood over short putts forever, grinding, trying to steady her nerves and missing a handful from short range.

Six months later, Pressel arrived at Blackhawk this week trying to rediscover the magic. She helped the U.S. win the Solheim Cup last month in Sweden (beating Annika Sorenstam in singles), and she has posted five top-10 finishes since her breakthrough triumph, but Pressel ... has slipped to No. 9 in the rankings.

Former commissioner Ty Votaw rejected Pressel's petition in June that she be allowed to join the LPGA Tour, if she qualifies, before turning 18. She made the cut in all seven LPGA events she played last season, and this month earned her card at qualifying school.
